What I’m up to now
(This is a now page. It was Derek Sivers’ idea. He’s smart.)
Working full time. It’s been six years since I’ve had regular full time work and after working for myself for so long, I wasn’t sure I’d ever find a job I could get excited about. But in January I started working for Young London as the Director of Operations and I’ll tell you what - this job checks a lot of boxes. I love the person I work with, I love the work, Skye can come with me to the office… it’s a great fit. And it’s awfully nice to have a paycheque.
Spring restock. Joel and I are getting ready to do a big restock for the Spruce Moose booth. I’m getting smart and coordinating my wholesale printing with my online print runs, which is even more important now that I’m working full time. I’ve discovered that keeping my weekends free is key to my not getting overwhelmed, so I’ll take time off work to do my printing. I love when Joel starts to stock up for summer – he always brings in such great colours.
Back to dog training basics. Skye and I have been buds for three years now and while I maintain that giving dogs agency and choice is important, it seems I’ve become a bit of a pushover. So, we’re going to school. A little relationship-building, a little mentorship (for me) and we’ll be running together joyfully through the tall grass, as we were meant to do.
Painting with acrylics. I hesitate to call it painting, even. Painting, in my mind, suggests some degree of skill or intentionality. I’m basically just pushing colourful liquid around haphazardly on pieces of paper. But it’s fun to play around and discover new things.
Singing again. I started lessons back up in the fall and have been working on just singing for singing’s sake – enjoying the way it feels and what music stirs up in me. It’s harder than it sounds, but I’m getting there and it’s beautiful.
